Michael Jarard was born and raised on the southside of Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated with honors from Morgan Park H.S in 1999. Upon graduation, Jarard served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey as an officer cadet candidate. Jarard attended Indiana University and later obtained his B.A. in Liberal Arts from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2003. He received his Juris Doctor with honors from Southern University Law Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2007.
Jarard’s legal career started at a Teaching Assistance in Law School, teaching Contracts, Family Law, and Federal Civil Procedure. He spent his summers as a law clerk for Starks & Boyd P.C., Chicago. After graduation, Jarard became an associate at Starks & Boyd, P.C. in Chicago, a full-service firm, and later became Junior Partner in 2009. At Starks & Boyd, Jarard practiced Criminal Defense, Federal Civil Rights Actions, Bankruptcy, Personal Injury, Civil Litigation, and Real Estate. In 2010, due to changes in the market Jarard made a lateral partnership transition to form the Law Offices of Bishop & Jarard where he specialized in Commercial Litigation and Criminal Defense. While at Bishop & Jarard, Jarard defended several major fuel distributors, retailers, and suppliers including Fortune 500 Companies like Conoco Phillips.
In 2012, Jarard founded The Jarard Law Group focusing on Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, and Commercial Litigation. Jarard has served as in-house counsel to several MBE/DBE construction and transportation companies. In those capacities, Jarard handled all contractual and labor related disputes.
Jarard’s greatest recognition has been through his extensive trial experience in the criminal state and federal courts. Throughout Jarard’s 14 + year history he has first chaired hundreds of trials and adversarial hearings both civil and criminal. He has handled every phase of criminal litigation from pre-indictment to post-conviction relief, litigated white collar crimes and major drug offenses in various U.S. District Courts. Jarard has a ninety-five percent success rate on misdemeanor and felony trials while never losing a jury trial in his practice.
Currently, Jarard is a founding partner of The Law Offices of Shiller, Preyar, Jarard & Samuels specializing in state and federal Criminal Defense, and trial work. Jarard has served in many capacities on various Bar Associations including as a current Judicial Evaluator.
